MAGNA, Utah – The Cyprus football game on the road against Ridgeline has been canceled after two players on the Pirates tested positive for COVID-19.
KSL Newsradio received confirmation from Granite School District representative Ben Horsley.
“That is accurate but the school and the coach opted to cancel practices this week and games this weekend. Just out of an abundance of caution,” Horsley said. “The notion that students are more important than sports so we should make every effort to ensure people can stay safe.”

50 high school football games were played last week as the season started. Only one game was canceled when three Bingham players tested positive for COVID-19. Their game against Weber was canceled.
Granger had a younger player test positive but was not in close contact with the varsity players. The Salt Lake County Health Department deemed it safe for the Lancers to play. Both Granger and Syracuse administrators agreed with the Health Department. Granger beat Syracuse 28-24.
Cyprus is 0-1 on the season after losing to Snow Canyon 42-0 at home to start the 2020 season. Ridgeline is 1-0 after a 42-38 win over Pine View last week.
