SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Taysom Hill pass attempts have been limited during games in his NFL career. Training camps and practices have been a different story and on Monday, Hill showed why Sean Payton continues to view the do-it-all star as a future starting quarterback in the NFL.
During the Saints first padded practice of camp, the former BYU great produced one of the best highlights from the day.

Taysom connected with second-year wide receiver Emmanuel Butler down the sideline who beat safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
Hill is entering his fourth season with the Saints organization on the heels of a new $21 million contract extension over the next two years. The Saints are still planning on using Taysom in the “F Position” role this season as a QB/WR/TE/RB in Sean Payton’s offense. But the bigger question is who could be the heir apparent to the Saints starting quarterback job when the day comes that Drew Brees retires and goes to the Sunday Night Football booth on NBC?
The Saints signed the NFL’s passing yards leader from a season ago in former No. 1 overall Draft pick James Winston. Winston signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with New Orleans after he was let go by Tampa Bay. So Hill and Winston could be in a competition to be the No. 2 quarterback this year and maybe are battling to show who should be Payton’s QB1 after Brees.
Throws like the one Taysom made in training camp on Monday are the plays Hill will need to make in order to become the next starting quarterback in the Big Easy.
