PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball signee Trey Stewart is finding ways to incorporate his talents on the basketball court into his missionary work for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A former standout at American Fork High School, Stewart is currently serving his Latter-day Saint missionary in Kennewick, Washington. Prior to COVID-19, Stewart began his two-year mission across the pond in Leeds, England.

Under guidance from their mission presidents, Latter-day Saint missionaries are able to use social media apps such as Instagram during the pandemic to share messages centered around the gospel. Stewart is sharing his spiritual messages through high-flying dunks.

“Today’s scripture is from Alma 26:12,” said Stewart. “‘Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things.'”

After Stewart dropped the scripture, he proceeded to throw down a between the legs slam dunk.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise that Stewart has an above the rim style of play to his game. When BYU head coach Mark Pope announced Stewart’s signing with the Cougars in May of 2019, Pope said, “All I have to say about Trey Stewart is ‘Dunk you very much!’ This young man has a beautiful way of introducing himself to the competition.”

Now the State Champion Stewart is introducing himself in a beautiful way to people who might be curious to hear a message from a Latter-day Saint missionary.
