RSL’s first goal came in the 22nd minute to tie the match at one goal apiece in the Round of 16 of the MLS is Back Tournament.
Douglas Martinez scored seconds after San Jose scored the first goal of the match when Cristian Espinoza scored in the 21st minute. The young RSL forward found the ball after the restart when he received a well played ball from Corey Baird. That left Martinez alone with the San Jose keeper as he chipped the ball over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
It’s only the fourth goal by Real Salt Lake in the MLS is Back Tournament. They beat the Colorado Rapids 2-0 in group play but later tied 0-0 with Minnesota United and lost to Sporting Kansas City 2-0 in the final match of the group stage.
The winner of this match will face the winner of Columbus and Minnesota in the quarterfinals on Saturday, August 1 at 6 p.m. MT on ESPN2.
