PROVO, Utah – San Clemente, California’s Bentley Redden was one of the top prospects on BYU’s class of 2021 recruiting board. Now that board can be marked down with the word “Commit” next to his name.
The three-star prospect (247Sports) Redden turned to social media on Sunday to announce that he is “100% committed” to play for the BYU football program.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Redden’s family has strong BYU connections. Redden’s father, Matt, was a defensive end at BYU who played in the early 1990s and was a teammate for one year with BYU head coach Kalani Sitake.
The elder Redden commented on his son’s commitment as well, “Happy Day! These unprecedented times have made the recruiting process strange and difficult. Can’t wait for a better future and getting America’s mainstay, FOOTBALL back. Go Cougs!”
Like his father, Redden had some prestigious programs recruiting him. A total of 18 schools offered the 6-foot-5, 215-pound prospect who projects to play tight end when he arrives at BYU. Some of the offers included Arizona State, Nebraska, Tennessee, and the Virginia Cavaliers.
BYU Passing Game Coordinator Aaron Roderick was the lead coach on the recruitment of Redden. Roderick has developed strong connections to the San Clemente and Orange County areas that date back to his coaching tenure at Utah.
Due to COVID-19 this year, in-person recruiting and summer camps has not taken place on the recruiting trail this off-season. But Redden had the chance to visit Provo last year when the Cougars defeated the hometown USC Trojans last September.
With Redden now committed, BYU’s class of 2021 is now up to seven commitments with Redden vaulting into the second-highest rated recruit behind only behind Timpview’s Raider Damuni.
