SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah head coach Urban Meyer spoke out the news surrounding Utes defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley.
Scalley was suspended on June 5 after sending a text message in 2013 that included a racial slur. On July 1, Scalley was reinstated under certain circumstances, including a pay cut and his head coach in waiting title being rescinded.
Meyer joined the Crimson Corner podcast to discuss the Scalley situation among many other things. You can listen to the full interview, below.
Scalley’s former head coach, Meyer didn’t speak about the situation but rather talked about who Scalley was as a person.

“Well, when I first heard, obviously Morgan Scalley is like a family member to us and we’ve stayed very close contact,” Meyer told KSL Sports. “I texted him right away, stayed in touch with him throughout, dove into it a little bit. But, I can’t speak to that situation and I won’t because I’m not educated enough to do that. I am educated enough to speak to who Morgan Scalley is as a person because I was very close with him. For those two years, I mean, he was my captain, he’s my leader. The amount of conversations that we had man, so much beyond football, I used to do firesides with him. That’s how much respect I have for him and I love Morgan Scalley, love his family, love his parents and so hopefully this all works out.”
Meyer was Scalley’s head coach during his last two seasons as a college football player in 2003 and 2004.
