Athlon Sports Recognizes Eight Utah State Football Players On 2020 Preseason All-MWC Teams

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Athlon Sports honored eight Utah State football players on its 2020 Preseason All-Mountain West Conference Teams.
The sports publication announced the honorees on Wednesday, June 10.
Out of the Aggies selected to the preseason all-conference teams, the list was highlighted by senior kick returner Savon Scarver to the first-team.

Utah State Aggies on Athlon Sports’ 2020 Preseason All-MWC Teams
First-Team Specialists
KR – Savon Scarver, Utah State
Scarver earned first-team all-Mountain West Conference honors in 2019. He was number one in the Mountain West and second in the nation with kickoff returns for touchdowns with two. He was also first in the conference and No. 11 in the country for kickoff return yards with an average of 27.9 yards per return.
Second-Team Defense
S – Shaq Bond, Utah State
Bond earned honorable mention all-conference honors in 2019 when he finished the season with 83 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss. He posted a team-high three interceptions last season.
Third-Team Offense
AP – Jordan Nathan, Utah State
Nathan was the Aggies’ second-leading receiver in both receptions and receiving yards last season. He caught 56 passes for 581 yards with one touchdown.

Third-Team Defense
LB – Troy Lefeged Jr., Utah State
Lefeged led Utah State’s defense with 104 tackles in 2019. He also recorded 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 4 pass breakups.
Fourth-Team Offense
OL – Alfred Edwards, Utah State
Edwards started 12 games for Utah State last season. He finished the season playing in 764 offensive snaps.
OL – Karter Shaw, Utah State
Shaw started 13 games in 2019. He played in 889 snaps for the Aggies’ offense.
Fourth-Team Defense
DL – Justus Te’i, Utah State
Te’i recorded 51 tackles and 1.5 sacks for the Aggies in 2019. The defensive lineman ranked No. 1 in the Mountain West and No. 6 in the country with 3 fumble recoveries.
LB – Kevin Meitzenheimer, Utah State
Meitzenheimer finished the 2019 season with 89 tackles, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, and a pass breakup.
Fourth-Team Specialists
PR – Jordan Nathan, Utah State

Prior to the 2019 season, Utah State received a Mountain West Conference-best seven first-team preseason selections by Athlon Sports.

The Aggies finished the 2019 season with a 7-6 record and an appearance in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl.
Utah State is scheduled to open the 2020 season at home against Washington State on Thursday, September 3.
