PROVO, Utah – BYU football landed their fifth commitment in the class of 2021 in Weston Jones. Jones is a 6-foot-5, 260-pound offensive lineman from Romeo High School in Romeo, Michigan.

Jones announced his commitment to BYU via his personal Twitter account. Earlier this year, Jones received an offer from BYU from offensive line coach Eric Mateos. Along with BYU, Jones received 15 scholarship offers including from three Power 5 programs in Virginia, Iowa State, and Indiana.

“After much prayer and consideration, I am COMMITTED to Brigham Young University!!! Thank you to all the coaches at BYU especially Coach Mateos for giving me this opportunity,” said Jones.

MLive.com ranked Jones as the 28th best football player in the state of Michigan heading into this upcoming high school football season.

Jones is the first commitment since BYU’s Jasen Ah You became the Director of Recruiting for the program. In May during an introductory media availability, Ah You said BYU would be “super, super selective” with their 2021 recruiting class. That’s due to a limited number of scholarships being available for the 2021 and 2022 classes.

Any player that receives a scholarship offer in BYU’s 2021 class is a high-priority on the Cougars recruiting board.

Jones is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he has plans to serve a mission before arriving at BYU to begin his college football career.

BYU Football commits in the class of 2021

BYU’s 2021 recruiting class features five commits with the previous four prior to Jones having been committed to the Cougars for at least one year already. The highest-rated commit in BYU’s 2021 class according to 247Sports is Timpview’s Raider Damuni. Damuni has been committed to BYU since February 2017 when he was in eighth grade.

The rest of the class includes Maple Mountain High wide receiver Kyson Hall (younger brother to Jaren Hall), Jordan High defensive back Tevita Mafileo, East High defensive lineman Ricky Wolfgramm, and now Weston Jones from Michigan.
