BYU Football Freshman Alex Miskela Enters Transfer Portal

PROVO, Utah – The fifth player from the BYU football program this off-season has entered the transfer portal. Redshirt freshman Alex Miskela has placed his name in the portal, which was first reported by 247Sports and has been confirmed by KSL Sports.
Miskela redshirted last season where he was a member of BYU’s scout team at linebacker and he didn’t appear in any games. This past spring he competed at defensive end.
The spring term deadline to withdraw from Brigham Young University takes place on June 2nd and that coincided with Miskela’s arrival in the Portal.
A member of the 2018 recruiting class, Miskela was identified and recruited by BYU associate head coach Ed Lamb and defensive coordinator Ilaisa Tuiaki. Miskela attended a tackling camp at BYU in the summer of 2017 where he was offered a scholarship by the coaching staff.
When he signed in 2018, Miskela was praised as a “gym rat” for his personal bests in the weight room coming out of Los Alamitos High School.
Along with Alex Miskela, fellow defensive linemen Devin Kaufusi and Austin Chambers entered the portal. Kaufusi landed at rival Utah along with former BYU kicker Skyler Southam who is already enrolled in classes with the Utes. The fifth transfer was quarterback Joe Critchlow who has yet to sign with another institution. Critchlow has received interest from Central Michigan.
Miskela’s departure is also the sixth player from the 2018 recruiting class to no longer be part of the BYU football program. That’s the highest number of early exits in any of Kalani Sitake’s five recruiting classes since he became the head coach in 2016.
