MLS Cancels All-Star Game, Leagues Cup & Campeones Cup

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Major League Soccer has cancelled the MLS All-Star Game, Leagues Cup, and Campeones Cup as the league continues it’s progress towards a restart of the 2020 season.
“The decisions were made to provide the most available dates for the remainder of the year for league competition,” the league said in a statement.

MLS All-Star Game
The 2020 MLS All-Star Game, which was originally scheduled to take place at Banc Of California Stadium on July 29th, will be pushed to 2021. The event, which was expected to be the best players from MLS playing against a team of LIGA MX all-stars will likely still occur in 2021, however, the league will need to confirm with LIGA MX officials regarding 2021 plans.
Leagues Cup
The second edition of the annual tournament between top MLS and LIGA MX teams, which was to take place between July and September, has been cancelled in a joint decision by both leagues. MLS and LIGA MX plan to play Leagues Cup in 2021.
Real Salt Lake was expected to take part in the Leagues Cup, they were one of 8 MLS teams to be selected to compete.
Campeones Cup
The third edition of Campeones Cup, which features the reigning MLS Cup champion against the winner of LIGA MX’s Campeón de Campeones, has been cancelled by the two leagues. It was scheduled to take place on August 12 at CenturyLink Field, the home of the 2019 MLS Cup champions, Seattle Sounders FC. The event will return in 2021.
