PROVO, Utah – Former BYU star Jimmer Fredette always finds a way to give back to the community where he became a basketball phenomenon back in 2011.

Fredette spoke to students from Provo City School District virtually from his home in Greece. The speech was part of a slideshow from the district highlighting the district’s “Kindness Club.”

“Hey everybody, this is Jimmer Fredette here, coming to you live from Athens, Greece. I know you guys in the Provo School District have done a great job the last few years creating a climate of kindness,” said Fredette.

According to the video, the goal of the Provo City School District’s “Kindness Club” is to create kindness and inclusion. This school year there were over 600 student kindness leaders.

A total of 22 schools make up the Provo City School District including Timpview, Provo, and Independence high schools.

Like the NBA, the EuroLeague, where Jimmer Fredette is currently playing, is currently suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is Fredette’s first year in the EuroLeague as a member of Panathinaikos in Athens, Greece. Considered to be the second-best basketball league in the world behind the NBA, Fredette has averaged 12.9 points per game in 27 games played with the Greens.

The EuroLeague announced last week that all of their teams have been in virtual communication to create a return strategy.

This season was Fredette’s ninth year playing professional basketball, which included five years in the NBA.
