SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The NFL Draft brings an array of young promising players for franchises, but on the flip side it creates murky futures for veterans, including former BYU star Jamaal Williams.
Williams’ NFL team, the Green Bay Packers, selected Boston College running back AJ Dillon in the second round last weekend. Which has many wondering what is Williams’ role going to look like in Green Bay?

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell put together a piece of one player from each NFL team that could be cut or traded in the aftermath of last week’s Draft.
For the Packers, Barnwell picked BYU’s all-time leading rusher in Williams who is heading into the final year of his rookie contract. “Williams has been an ineffective change-of-pace back for his entire career and dragged down the Green Bay offense when he was on the field replacing Aaron Jones,” wrote Barnwell.
Through three years in Green Bay, Williams has totaled 1,480 rushing yards to go with 725 receiving yards. Last year, Williams joined Ahman Green as the only Packer running backs to have touchdown receptions in four consecutive games. Williams will be paid $2.13 million this year, so if the Packers do move on from him, he could be a potential trade target.
Hours after Barnwell’s article, Williams’ trainer Luke Neal tweeted out, “You will all be shocked this year. Of the results from JSwaggdaddy. Jamaal will be putting the League on notice. You heard it here 1st.” With a link to Williams rookie year highlights with the Packers.
