SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former University of Utah standout kicker and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer Matt Gay has spoken on his excitement for Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski to join the team. Gay, who has been with the Buc’s for one season after being drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, will be hoping to better their 7-9 record from a year ago.

Gay admitted that “the family wants to get to know them” (the Brady’s) and although Gay’s wife is not the biggest football fan, she is eager to have a dinner party with Gisele and Tom. More so Gisele, by the sounds of things.
Following the trades that sent Brady and Gronk to the Buc’s, the odds that Tampa becomes the first team to win the Superbowl while also being the host has drastically increased. Gay has landed on a team filled with star power.
BYU Said No
Gay’s football career began in the middle of a successful college soccer career. At the time, Gay was the starting striker on the Utah Valley Men’s Soccer Team and was having success putting the ball into the back of the onion bag (goal).

It has long been rumored that BYU Football has denied the attempts of Andy Phillips and Gay.
“I went down and kicked and had a little try out for them,” Gay said. “They were like, we have four kickers, we got an All-American (Skyler Southam) coming back so I think we are good.”
Gay does not blame them. Nor does he have any animosity towards the BYU Football program, he understands why they made the decision to not invite him onto their roster. He is ultimately content with how it worked out.
At the University of Utah Gay won the Lou Groza Award, given to the best kicker in the country, he was also a two-time All American and holds multiple school records including most field goals from 50+ yards, with 8.
