PROVO, Utah – Remember that popular meme a few years back when live sports was a thing? The Warriors blew a 3-1 lead. Why do I bring this up, you ask? BYU fans had their own version of a 3-1 lead on Monday in the Fox Sports Ultimate Fan Bracket and they blew it.
BYU was in the National Championship round against college basketball blueblood North Carolina. What was at stake? A title and the opportunity to put a smack talk billboard near their rival’s campus.
THIS ONE'S FOR THE TITLE 🏆

So Utah fans can breathe a sigh of relief to know that there won’t be a billboard highlighting BYU sports near their campus anytime soon.
With one hour left in the voting, BYU fans held a four percent lead over the Tar Heels. It appeared as though BYU was headed for another National Championship. First, it was the mascot title over Western Kentucky’s Big Red, now it was going to be over the Heels. But that was not the case.
Tar Heel fans came in with a LeBron-esque block from behind to snatch the victory away from BYU.
A total of 119,602 votes were submitted in the Championship round. The final tally shows 50-50 between both schools, so the Heels won by mere decimals.
BYU fans appeared to be getting help from Duke supporters, but it wasn’t enough, as the Tar Heels took home the Ultimate Fan National Championship.
The Cougars took down college basketball bluebloods Michigan State and Indiana in their quest for a fan title, North Carolina was too much for BYU fans to overcome.
Now with the mascot title over the ultimate fan bracket concluded as well, live sports, please get here soon.
