Detroit Lions Select Utah DT John Penisini In Sixth Round, 197th Overall Pick In 2020 NFL Draft

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Detroit Lions picked former Utah defensive tackle John Penisini in the sixth round, 197th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Penisini was the 7th Utah player to be selected in the Draft.
The former Ute is headed to Detroit to join a defense that had a 3-12 record in 2019.
John Penisini’s Collegiate Career
The West Jordan, Utah native started his career at Utah in 2017 after transferring from Snow College. He started in one of the 12 games that he played in his first season, finishing with 4 tackles and a sack.
In 2018, Penisini started in 8 games while participating in all 14 contests. He recorded 38 tackles, 7 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. That performance earned him second team All-Pac-12 selection.
This past season, Penisini earned himself a All-Pac-12 second team selection again after racking up 38 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
Penisini’s NFL Combine Results
He measured the following at the NFL Scouting Combine:
Height: 6’1
Weight: 318 lbs.
Arms: 32 7/8″
Hands: 10 1/2″
At the Combine, Penisini recorded the following results:
Bench Press: 23 reps
Vertical Jump: 25.5 inches
20-Yard Shuttle: 4.93 seconds
