Utah DE Bradlee Anae Is One Of The Best Play-Makers In 2020 NFL Draft

Apr 19, 2020, 9:11 PM

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah defensive end Bradlee Anae is one of the best play-makers coming out of the state of Utah in the NFL Draft.

Former Utah and NFL quarterback Scott Mitchell has been impressed with what he has seen from Anae.

Mitchell and SportsBeat has broken down film on all of the potential prospects from the state of Utah going into the NFL Draft, the former Utah QB thinks that Anae is the best play-maker.

“Of all of the players that we have gone through, I think the guy that has made more plays and been more disruptive than anybody is Bradlee Anae,” stated Mitchell. “He has this ability to be disruptive and be a foundation player.”

Mitchell thinks that Anae is a guy that can be a foundation player for an NFL team.

“If Bradlee Anae wants to be that dominant player in the NFL, that foundation that you can build a team on, he has to be a great pass rusher and he is,” Mitchell stated. “He is as good as any pass rusher on the edge.”

Crafty Moves On Pass Rush

Most defensive edge rushers have one or two moves that they use to get past the offensive tackle and get to the quarterback. Anae has more than that and can also make plays on the inside of the tackle.

“In the NFL, offensive lineman will catch up to defensive ends with their moves to the outside but Bradlee Anae has inside moves,” Mitchell said. “You don’t see that a lot in college defensive lineman, they learn that as they go on.”

Something that Mitchell mentioned about Anae is how quick he is getting off the line of scrimmage.

“Another thing that Bradlee is good at is his get off on the line of scrimmage,” Mitchell mentioned. “It’s like a track meet. When the ball is snapped, he is the first guy to move.”

Can Play Within A Scheme

Most pass rushers have one job and that is to get to the quarterback. Something unique that Anae has is the ability to play within a scheme and drop back if needed.

“One thing that I like about Anae is that not only can he make plays but he can play within a scheme,” Mitchell said. “He is a guy that will play disciplined and you love that he has a motor that he can get up the field and can rush the passer, can close on the passer and can make plays. But, he also knows his responsibility.”

Anae can play in any football system but Mitchell thinks that the former Ute will thrive in a 4-3 scheme.

“I think he is a four-down lineman guy,” Mitchell said. “He is quick, very athletic, he can run, has a nose for the football. I see him as a guy playing in the NFL for a long time.”

The NFL Draft will take place from April 23-25. Catch the full breakdown from Scott Mitchell on Bradlee Anae at the top of the story.
