SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – BYU alumni and current Korn Ferry Tour player, Patrick Fishburn, showcased his elite skillset on this week’s episode of The Hallowed Grounds.
Fishburn, who played at BYU between 2011-12 before going on a mission and returning to complete his schooling and golfing ambitions between 2015-2018, is now in his first season as a member of the PGA Korn Ferry Tour.
Fishburn attended Fremont High School, alongside fellow professional golfer Zac Blair before attending BYU.
While also attending Fremont HS, Fishburn starred as the starting point guard, making All-State honors in 2010-11.
“I grew up playing a ton of sports. I played a ton of basketball, probably as much basketball as golf. A little bit of baseball and I actually played tennis my senior year to try and kill some time,” Fishburn told me on the show.
Fishburn’s golfing story, despite being only brief, is a remarkable one.
“I finished my senior year at BYU in May or whatever and then went and played on the Mackenzie Tour (PGA Tour Canada). I played half a year and then came back because I had full status and I had to win the final tournament of the year in order to achieve my Korn Ferry Tour card. I ended up having four pretty good rounds and I won the tournament.”
After beating my on the par 5 first hole up at Ogden Golf and Country Club, Fishburn proceeded to inform me of his achievements on the par 3-second hole.
“I made my first hole in one on this hole actually, I was ten years old.”
Prior to the round starting, I knew I was likely going to lose by a significant margin. However, when subtly told me that he was 10 years old when he hit his first hole in one, I remember feeling helpless and agitated.
“I hit a little 7-iron in there from 120.”
Fishburn left with a brand new Bushnell range finder valued at over $500.
