SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU defensive lineman Devin Kaufusi announced that he will transfer to Utah and will join the Utes football program.
The defensive lineman entered the portal following the first week of BYU football spring practices.
Kaufusi announced on his Twitter account that he will join the University of Utah. He will have three years to play two in his college eligibility.
Although, it is possible for Kaufusi to play immediately because the NCAA will be voting on allowing transfers to play immediately for their first transfer rather than sitting out one season.
Pleased to announce that I have officially committed to the University of Utah. There I will further my football career and education. Thank you @CoachPowell99 @UtahCoachWhitt @SafetyPride @Utah_Football UTAH MAN AM I💯 pic.twitter.com/HjTcNwabba

Kaufusi has play defensive line for the Cougars in the last two seasons. He’s played in 25 games for BYU. During his time on the field, Kaufusi has recorded 15 total tackles, 7 solo tackles, 1.0 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and 2 pass breakups.
Devin’s older brothers, Corbin and Bronson, each played their college careers at BYU. The patriarch of the Kaufusi family, Steve, coached on the BYU defensive staff from 2002-18.
Kaufusi joins the Utes and a defensive line that had three of the four starters depart for graduation including Bradlee Anae, Leki Fotu and John Penisini. The Utes did sign two 4-star defensive ends in the latest recruiting class in Corner Canyon star Van Fillinger and Juan Diego’s Xavier Carlton.
