Press last season scored 8 goals from 14 matches on her way to helping the Utah Royals to a 10-4-10 record that solidified 6th place in the NWSL. She was the second-highest goal scorer on the team and tied for sixth in the league, despite missing a handful of games due to the Women’s FIFA World Cup. She earned a spot on the 2019 NWSL Best XI Team, while also being named NWSL Player of the Month honors in August. Press was voted as NWSL Goal of the Week winner on three separate occasions.
O’Hara notched one assist in four games for the Royals in 2019 and was named to the FIFA FIFPro World XI Team for her contributions at the Women’s World Cup.
The duo has been paramount in helping the game of soccer grow in Utah, specifically for the thousands of young women in the state who look up to and dream to one day be like Press and O’Hara.
The Governors State of Sports Awards was scheduled to take place in early April, however, due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus, the ceremony will no longer take place as originally planned.
The Utah Sports Commission is a non-profit organization established by all-volunteered Board of Trustees members across statewide sports, business, community, and government leaders.
URFC previously won the Governor’s State of Sport Event of the Year Award at the 2019 ceremony for its inaugural home opener that took place on April 14, 2018.
