The first upset happened with No. 10 seed Joel Bolomboy from Weber State beating BYU’s Mel Hutchins. Another No. 10 seed in Shawn Bradley beat fellow Cougar alum Jeff Chatman. Former Utah greats Josh Grant and Tom Chambers are moving on to the next round.
As expected, the No. 8 seeds vs. No. 9 seeds came down to the wire. No. 8 seed Vern Gardner knocked off No. 9 seed Nate Williams by 47 votes.
