SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Pac-12 Conference announced they are canceling all sporting events until further notice to protect and prevent against the spread of Coronavirus.

This includes the Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Tournament and the Women’s Gymnastics Championships.

The conference has also cancelled all sports for the remainder of the academic year.

The men’s basketball tournament was in progress in Las Vegas, Nevada when the conference made the announcement. The University of Utah Men’s Basketball team had already been eliminated following a loss to Oregon State.

The Pac-12 Women’s Gymnastics Championships were set to be held in West Valley City, Utah on March 21.

“The decision has been made in consultation with our member Universities and in an effort to limit the spread of the virus and in the interest of health and safety of our student-athletes, campus personnel, working and event personnel, and all those who attend Pac-12 events,” the conference wrote in a statement.

The Pac-12 originally announced they would be holding the events with limited crowds, but later announced the cancellation of all “sport competitions.”

The Utah Women’s gymnastics team had their final meet (now canceled) against Utah State set for March 13 at the Huntsman Center and are currently ranked second in the Pac-12 behind UCLA.
