Utah State Moves Up In Bracket Predictions After Upset Of No. 5 San Diego State

LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State Aggies moved up in bracket predictions for the NCAA Tournament after securing an automatic bid by upsetting the No. 5 San Diego State Aztecs.
The Aggies defeated the Aztecs 59-56 in the championship game of the Mountain West Conference Tournament on Saturday, March 7.
By winning the MWC tourney, Utah State earned an automatic berth to the NCAA tourney. College basketball experts improved the Aggies’ seeding in their bracket projections following the team’s auto-bid to March Madness.

Before upsetting the Aztecs, Jerry Palm of CBS Sports slotted the Aggies as one of the last four teams to make the tournament.

After winning the MWC tourney title, Palm predicts that Utah State will face a No. 7 seeded Illinois Fighting Illini team in St. Louis in the first round of the tournament.
Joe Lunardi – ESPN
One week prior to securing an automatic bid, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, like Palm, projected Utah State as one of the last four teams to make the 68-team NCAA tourney field.

Again like Palm, Lunardi currently has the Aggies slotted as a No. 10 seed in the Midwest region. The ESPN bracketologist predicts that Utah State will face a No. 7 seeded West Virginia Mountaineers team in St. Louis in the first round of the tournament.

Utah State will discover its first-round matchup and seeding during the NCAA selection show on Sunday, March 15 at 4 p.m. (MDT).
