Kreilach’s Stoppage Time Header In Home Opener Earns RSL Another Point

SANDY, Utah – Damir Kreilach’s header during stoppage time earned Real Salt Lake one point in the club’s home opener against the New York Red Bulls.
Real Salt Lake hosted the Red Bulls at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy on Saturday, March 7.
Kreilach connected on a header during the 91st minute to equalize the scoreboard at 1-1.
“We played well and we dominated the game. We controlled the game, and our attitude was unbelievable, we pulled for each other,” Kreilach said after the match. “I think that we deserved a lot more than we took from this game, but we have to stay positive and look forward to the next game.”
The midfielders’ goal was RSL’s first of the season.
Kreilach now has 19 goals in his Major League Soccer career, all with Real Salt Lake.

RSL controlled possession for 64 percent of the match compared to 36 by New York.
The Red Bulls struggled against Real Salt Lake’s defense and only mustered four shots including two on goal compared to RSL’s 21 total shots and six shots on goal.
New York’s only goal came during the 13th minute on a long shot by Cristian Cásseres Jr.
RSL had six corner kicks while the Red Bulls had two.
Both teams received a pair of yellow cards during the 95-minute match.

Real Salt Lake improved to 0-2-0 on the season with the result.
The club’s next match is against Columbus Crew SC on Saturday, March 14 at 3 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on KSLSports.com and the KSL TV app.
