USU Guard Sam Merrill Buries Three-Pointer Over Wyoming’s Double-Team Defense

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Utah State guard Sam Merrill connected on a three-pointer over two defenders during the Mountain West Conference Tournament game between the Aggies and Wyoming Cowboys.
The Aggies and Cowboys played in the MWC tourney semifinals at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Friday, March 6.
USU’s Sean Bairstow kicked the ball over from the left corner to Merrill at the angle late in the first of action. Merrill received the pass, rose up over a couple of closing Wyoming defenders and buried the triple to give Utah State a 30-23 lead with 6:20 remaining in the opening half.

The Aggies took a 38-31 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
At the break, Merrill had 9 points on 4-8 shooting. He added 1 rebound, 5 assists, and a steal during his time on the court.
Aggies center Neemias Queta had a game-high 12 points on 5-5 field goals. Queta added 5 boards, 2 steals, and a block during the half.

Utah State earned its spot in the semifinals with a win over the New Mexico Lobos on March 5. In the win over the Lobos, Merrill scored a game-high 29 points.
