Former BYU F Eric Mika Helps Team USA Beat Puerto Rico In FIBA Qualifier

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA – Former BYU forward Eric Mika helped the USA Men’s AmeriCup Qualifying Team beat Puerto Rico in the first window of FIBA AmeriCup Qualifying action.
Mika and Team USA defeated Puerto Rico 95-73 at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington D.C. on Sunday, February 23.
The former BYU star started the game for the USA and scored 10 points on 4-6 field goals. Mika added 5 rebounds in 17 minutes on the court.

Team USA In AmeriCup
“I was very proud of the (USA’s) performance,” said Team USA head coach Mike Fratello after the win. “Puerto Rico came out very tough, very determined, but we wanted to try and finish what our mission was, and that was to go play two games against Puerto Rio and try to win both of them.”
Team USA previously beat Puerto Rico 83-70 on February.20 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The 2020-21 FIBA AmeriCup Qualifying Tournament consists of 16 teams from the Americas. The 16 teams are dividing into four groups of four teams for the tourney. The top three teams from each group will earn a spot in the FIBA AmeriCup.

According to USA Basketball, “the USA will play in two more windows of the qualifying tournament. The second window will see the USA host two games at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C., versus the Bahamas on Nov. 27 and against Mexico on Nov. 30. The third and final window will feature the USA at the Bahamas on Feb. 18 and at Mexico on Feb. 21.”

More On Mika
Mika is currently a member of Sacramento’s G-League franchise, the Stockton Kings.
The former BYU forward recently returned to the United State after spending time playing professional basketball in China.
Mika signed a 10-day deal with the Sacramento Kings on February 1. Five days later, Mika was waived by the Kings and added to Stockton’s roster.
