Former BYU Receiver Pearson Catches Touchdown In XFL Opening Weekend

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Former BYU and current New York Guardians wide receiver Colby Pearson caught a touchdown in the XFL opening weekend game between the Guardians and the Tampa Bay Vipers.
Pearson and the Guardians hosted the Vipers at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, February 9.
With the ball on the Vipers’ 12-yard line, the former BYU wideout began his route, broke off the Tampa Bay defensive back, and ran into the end zone wide open for an easy New York touchdown.

The Guardians took a 14-0 lead over the Vipers with Pearson’s TD.
New York went on to win their inaugural game 23-3 over Tampa Bay.
Pearson finished the game with 2 receptions on 4 targets for 44 yards and the score.
Pearson’s BYU Career
The former BYU receiver played for the Cougars from 2013-16. During his time in Provo, Pearson posted 76 receptions for 864 yards and 8 touchdowns.
He appeared in 43 BYU games including five starts.
In 2016, Pearson led the Cougars in touchdowns with four.

Pearson Post-BYU
Pearson signed with the Green Bay Packers in 2017 after going undrafted out of BYU.
Green Bay waived Pearson and signed him as a member of its practice squad during the fall of 2017.
During the summer of 2018, Pearson was released by the Packers.
Less than two months later, the Atlanta Falcons signed Pearson. He was waived less than a month later.
During the XFL’s draft in 2019, the former BYU receiver was selected by the New York Guardians.

Pearson is one of twelve players with ties to the state of Utah playing in the XFL this season.
New York’s next game is against the DC Defenders on Saturday, February 15 at 12 p.m. (MDT).
The game between the Guardians and Defenders will be played at Audi Field in Washington D.C. The game will be televised on ABC.
