SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake midfielder Albert Rusnák said the new kit is “exciting” and will bring the team “luck as well” in 2020.
Rusnák joined KSLSports.com’s Sam Farnsworth to discuss the new kit after it was revealed on Wednesday, February 5.
“It’s exciting for us as players to see the new shirts that we’re gonna wear for the whole year,” said Rusnák of the kit reveal. “This year, there’s a little change with the blue shorts are back. Last time RSL had the red jersey, blue shorts, and red socks was when the MLS Cup was brought to Utah in 2009. Hopefully, it will bring us some luck as well.”
Much love to @realsaltlake for the hookup! Our guys @TomCantHackett and @x_hems will have more on the release on https://t.co/r2MtSoh9UM 🔥🔥🔥 as well as their gut reaction to the new kit ❤️💛💙 #RSLTID pic.twitter.com/b8fj1WSgWi

Kit Design
Real Salt Lake’s new 2020 kit design is focused on the landscape and topography of Utah.
The front of the jersey has blue lines scattered across the front that are a replica of the diverse, and intricate landscape that the state of Utah offers.
“They’ve changed the font and the type of letters and numbers that are on the back which I personally like,” said Rusnák.
Look Good, Feel Good, Play Good
Although players don’t have much say in what they sport on the pitch, Rusnák said that in general, he agrees with the saying “look good, feel good, play good.”
Farnsworth asked the midfielder if he was superstitious about what he wears on the pitch to which he replied, “No, not at all.”
Rusnák highlighted the blue shorts and the throwback to RSL’s championship season over a decade ago.
“Having that in the back of your mind, that the blue shorts were once here and they definitely brought good luck to the team. Maybe once we get the season started, we’ll get some wins under our belt and we’ll be thinking about it as well,” said Rusnák.
Upcoming Season
“We’ve been together for a month now,” said Rusnák of the team’s preparation for the upcoming season.
“The new season comes and all of a sudden five or six of those guys are gone,” said Rusnák. “I wouldn’t say it has an effect but definitely you’re aware that they’re not there.”
“Our job is to make them feel welcome from day one,” said Rusnák.
Real Salt Lakes kicks off its 2020 campaign on Saturday, February 29 at 4 p.m. (MDT) against Orlando City SC.
“We want to see a full stadium. We want to see as many fans as possible come out and support us. They helped us massively last year.
RSL’s first home match is against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, March 7 at 12 p.m. (MDT).
