AMERICAN FORK, Utah – It’s not often you see a recruit decommit from a school and still end up signing with that program. But that’s the case with American Fork High School linebacker Bodie Schoonover who signed with BYU on Signing Day.
Breaking: American Fork's Bodie Schoonover has sent his letter of intent to #BYU. Huge for the Cougars to regain Schoonover who turns down an offer from UCLA.#BYUFootball #NSD20 https://t.co/nE4qwAzOQr

Back in December, Schoonover decommitted from the Cougars in Kalani Sitake’s office after what was an emotional experience, but he still kept BYU in the mix for his recruitment along with the UCLA Bruins who were the biggest threat to pulling Schoonover away from BYU.
But in the end, Schoonover signed with the team that believed in him before anyone else did by signing with BYU.
Schoonover had originally committed to BYU back in June of 2018 moments after Kalani Sitake extended an offer at a BYU football camp. At that time, Schoonover had yet to play in any varsity games at American Fork. Then Schoonover’s recruitment started to take off with Power 5 programs such as UCLA, Utah, and Nebraska extending offers.

In his senior season, Schoonover suffered a season-ending injury that kept him sidelined the entire year. Which in all likelihood probably prevented more Power 5 programs from offering Schoonover who many believe has his best years of football ahead of him when he plays in college football.
Schoonover plans to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling at BYU.
