HOLLADAY, Utah – Despite their 5-7 season a year ago, the Stanford Cardinal are still a problem for local schools trying to keep the in-state talent at home.
Olympus High’s Scotty Edwards announced on Tuesday night that he will be signing with the Cardinal during National Signing Day.

Edwards, an athlete prospect in the class of 2020 rankings, picked Stanford over an offer from BYU. On the final weekend before Signing Day, Edwards took an official visit to BYU’s campus but the appeal of the Stanford education proved to be too much in landing the three-star recruit.
On The Farm, Edwards will compete at safety in David Shaw’s program. As a kid, Edwards grew up a BYU fan and has an uncle in Mike Sumko who played for the Cougars in the early 2000s. But once Stanford offered, it was a game-changing offer to Edwards’ recruitment.
During his senior season, KSL 5 TV’s Sam Farnsworth profiled Edwards last season and along with being a star on the football field, he also excels at playing the piano. Stanford fans probably like to see that as one of the best Cardinal players ever in Christian McCaffrey was also a great piano player back in the day.
BYU hosted two other Olympus High recruits on official visits
Scotty Edwards wasn’t the only Olympus High player that BYU is currently recruiting. This past weekend, BYU hosted defensive end Emerson Conlon and defensive back Chase Hopkins on official visits. Both Conlon and Hopkins are being recruited as preferred walk-ons by BYU.

Conlon had 76 tackles and 9.5 sacks in his senior year with the Titans.
