Andy Reid Gives Shout Out To BYU After Winning Super Bowl LIV

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Just moments after winning his first Super Bowl title as an NFL head coach, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid showed some love to his alma mater, BYU.

Reid joined the ESPN NFL Primetime set after his Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV. On the ESPN’s set was host Chris Berman, Randy Moss, and former BYU and 49ers legend Steve Young.
The relationship between Reid and Young dates back to both of their days in Provo. During Steve Young’s junior season in 1982, Reid was a graduate assistant coach for the Cougars. The two individuals had a moment together to celebrate the joyous occasion and reflected back on their days at BYU.
Young said to Reid, “My Junior Varsity coach [at BYU]. He taught me everything I know about quarterback.”

Later in Reid’s interview, while talking with Young, he gave a shoutout to their alma mater, BYU.
“How ’bout the Cougs? What a shoutout to them with ‘Dirty Dan’ (Daniel Sorensen) playing for us. It’s beautiful,” said Reid.

Reid has always been proud of his history with BYU. Back in 2017, Reid visited Provo for BYU Football’s annual Media Day to celebrate the life of LaVell Edwards. Since Edwards’ passing in late 2016, current BYU head coach Kalani Sitake has said that Reid has taken on Edwards’ role as a mentor to him.
Three coaches to have worked for LaVell Edwards have now won Super Bowls. Those three include Mike Holmgren with Green Bay (Super Bowl XXXI), Brian Billick with Baltimore (Super Bowl XXXV), and now Reid with the Chiefs.
This one was probably the sweetest for BYU fans everywhere who saw one of their own celebrating and proud to represent the Cougars after the greatest moment of his coaching career.
