SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Utes true freshman guard Rylan Jones has been named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for his two performances last week against Washington and Washington State.

It’s the first time that Jones has won the weekly honor. It’s also the first time that any Utah player has won the award because it’s the first season that the Pac-12 is honoring freshman weekly.

Jones had two big performances last week and was a big reason that the Utes completed the sweep of the Washington schools.

On Thursday night against Washington, Jones scored all 13 of his points in the second half and in particular the last 5:25 of the game. Nine of his points came at the foul line in clutch moments. He hit the two free throws to give the Utes a one point lead with 14 seconds left in the game. The Olympus High star also had 9 assists and 7 rebounds in Utah’s 67-66 win over the Huskies, snapping a four-game losing streak.

In Utah’s 76-64 win over Washington State, Jones scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half, shooting 6-7 from the field and 2-2 from beyond the arc. Jones dropped 13 points in the final 9:24 of the game.

The Utes will be back on the road on Thursday night when they face the USC Trojans. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on FS1.
