“It’s a pretty good feeling to have the Spectrum rocking like this,” Queta said after the game. He is looking like he is healthy again after scoring in double figures for the fourth time this season.
Both teams struggled in the opening minutes of the game offensively, shooting a combined 6-31 from the field, but the Aggies finished the game shooting 46 percent from the field, 7-24 from the three point line for 29 percent from downtown and made 23 of their 30 free throws.
Utah State controlled the paint throughout the game by outscoring Nevada 36-22.
Nevada improved their shooting but not by much, making 23-59 for 39 percent from the field and 10-23 from beyond the arc.
Other than Queta and Merrill, two other Utah State players reached double figures in scoring, including Brock Miller with 11 points and Abel Porter with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Wolf Pack were led by Jalen Harris with 31 points, Jazz Johnson’s 18 points capped the only two Nevada players to score in double figures.
Utah State improved their record to 14-5 overall, 3-3 in Mountain West Conference play. They will be back out on the road on Saturday, January 18 against the Boise State Broncos. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
