SANDY, Utah – With the 20th pick of the 2020 MLS Superdraft Real Salt Lake picked winger Dayonn Harris out of the University of Connecticut. Harris joins the Claret and Cobalt after finishing the 2019 season with two goals and nine assists while helping the Huskies to a 5-12-1 record. Defender Michael Wetungu was also selected by RSL with the 46th overall pick out of Michigan State University.
Following his 2019 campaign, Harris garnered a selection to the American Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team after being selected to the second team a year prior.
“I just wanted to say thank you to the coaches and players at UConn that have helped me develop into the player I am today,” said Harris via the UConn Athletic Departement. “I am excited for the next chapter of my career at RSL.”

Harris stands at just 5 feet 7 inches and weighs a mere 155 pounds, it is fair to assume that size and strength is not what Harris is known for on the pitch. Speed kills they say, well fortunately for RSL, they drafted somebody with immense speed and acceleration.
“We are very excited to add two players that we had rated extremely highly on our draft board as two of the top prospects coming out of NCAA this year,” RSL General Manager Elliot Fall said. “Dayonn is a proven attacking threat on the wings who will add to our list of young promising attacking players. Michael is a solid defender who we see translating to the professional level seamlessly.”

Metungu, who stands at 6 ft 3 inches, is a force to be reckoned with at center back. His career at Michigan State consisted of formidable defense along with impressive athleticism for a man of his stature.
Harris and Metungu are expected to join the club ahead of the beginning of the 2020 preseason on January 18 at the Zions Bank Real Academy.
