SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah guard Jordan Clarkson scored the most by a Jazz player off the bench this season in the team’s win over the Detroit Pistons.

Clarkson and the Jazz defeated the Pistons at Vivint Smart Home on Monday, December 30.

The Jazz guard scored 20 points in Utah’s 104-81 over Detroit. Clarkson shot 7-13 on field goals including 4-7 on three-pointers. He added 1 rebound, 2 assists, and a steal in 27 minutes of play. Clarkson recorded a bench-high +11 plus-minus rating in the win.

Prior to Utah’s win over the Pistons, the most points scored by a Jazzman from the second unit in a game this season was 19 points.

Former Jazz forward Jeff Green scored 19 points off the bench twice this season. Green recorded the previous bench-high total in a loss against the Toronto Raptors on December 1 and again in a win over the Memphis Grizzlies on December 7.

Clarkson matched that total when he scored 19 points in his second game as a member of the Jazz in a win over the Los Angeles Clippers on December 28.

Green was waived by Utah on December 24 and cleared waivers to become a free agent on December 26.

Clarkson was officially acquired by the Jazz in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers on December 24 prior to Green’s release.

In his first three games with the Jazz, Clarkson has posted 9 points, 19 points, and 20 points.

Utah has won all three games with Clarkson on the roster.

Mitchell has scored 20 points or more in 11 of Utah’s last 12 games. Monday’s victory was his 27th game this season with at least 20 points.

Jazz forwards Joe Ingles and Bojan Bogdanovic poured in 10 points and 17 points respectively.

Rudy Gobert showed why’s the two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year against the Pistons. Gobert anchored Utah’s defense that limited Detroit’s offense to 38 percent on field goals. The Jazz center posted his 13th double-double in December with 13 points and 19 rebounds.

New Utah guard Rayjon Tucker saw his first action in a Jazz uniform at the end of the fourth quarter. Tucker scored his first NBA points on a layup and went 1-2 on field goals in 2 minutes on the floor.

Derrick Rose led the Pistons with 20 points off the bench.

A New Year

Utah improved to 21-12 overall and 13-3 at home this season. Detroit fell to 12-22 on the year.

The Jazz head into 2020 with the sixth best record in the Western Conference.

Utah’s next game is against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at 6 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on NBA League Pass, AT&T SportsNet, and 97.5 FM.
