HONOLULU, Hawaii – BYU wide receiver Micah Simon sprinted into the end zone for the Cougars’ third touchdown of the first half against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors on a trick play.

Simon’s touchdown came late in the second quarter of the SoFi Hawaii Bowl at Aloha Stadium on Tuesday, December 24.

Before the score, BYU quarterback Zach Wilson handed the ball off to receiver Aleva Hifo who pitched the ball off to Simon in the backfield. Simon reversed the field, turned the corner, and sprinted across the goal line for the Cougars’ third touchdown of the game and second TD of the second quarter.

After the score, Simon had posted one carry for 11 yards, one reception for 11 yards, and the score. After missing a BYU receiver on a trick play earlier in the half, Simon was 0/1 throwing the football.

Simon’s TD cut into Hawaii’s lead and made the scoreboard 24-21 Rainbow Warriors.

The ‘Bows scored two minutes later to extend their lead before halftime.

With 18 seconds until the break, BYU kicker Jake Oldroyd connected on a 37-yard field goal attempt to put the game back to one score, 31-24 Hawaii at halftime.

Wilson went to the break completing 17/24 attempts for 209 yards and an interception.

BYU’s three touchdowns all came on the ground.

Hawaii vs. BYU is broadcast on KSL NewsRadio 1160 AM and 102.7 FM. The game is televised on ESPN.
