BYU’s Katoa Punches In TD Run Following Big Catch By Bushman

HONOLULU, Hawaii – BYU running back Lopini Katoa scored the Cougars’ first touchdown of the game on a short run following a big catch by tight end Matt Bushman.
Katoa’s touchdown put BYU on the scoreboard for the first time in the SoFi Hawaii Bowl on Tuesday, December 24.
The sophomore running back ran the ball in on a goal-line play to cut the Cougars’ deficit against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and make it a 14-7 ball game with 54 seconds left in the first quarter at Aloha Stadium. Katoa’s TD run was set up by a 31-yard connection from BYU quarterback Zach Wilson to Bushman.

BYU’s touchdown drive went 73 yards over 10 plays and 4:01 of game time.
After the scored, Katoa had 4 carries for 7 yards and the touchdown.

Bushman led BYU’s passing attack with 2 receptions for 37 yards.
Wilson was 6/11 passing for 72 yards and an interception.

Katoa’s touchdown run was his fourth of the 2019 season. He entered the Hawaii Bowl with 74 carries for 307 yards.
Bushman entered the bowl game with 41 catches for 597 yards and 4 touchdowns.
