PROVO, Utah – When BYU and Hawaii square off in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve, the Cougars will be the designated home team. Even though the Rainbow Warriors are playing on their home field at Aloha Stadium.
BYU is wearing their throwback royal blue uniforms and white pants tonight. BYU is 2-1 this season in the royal blue and white pants combination.
Whenever you watch clips from BYU games against Hawaii in the past, the Rainbow Warriors used to wear rainbow throwback uniforms. Hawaii won’t be wearing those tonight.
“If someone wanted to pay for those, we would wear them,” Hawaii head coach Nick Rolovich jokingly said on Cougar Sports Saturday.
The Rainbow Warriors will wear their road white uniforms with black pants and their traditional black helmet.
This is the third bowl appearance BYU has participated in since Kalani Sitake became the head coach in 2016. BYU is 2-0 in their previous bowl games under Sitake. The Cougars are also 2-0 against Hawaii and Nick Rolovich under Sitake.
BYU defeated Hawaii the past two seasons, once in Honolulu in 2017 and then in Provo in 2018.
