Sam Merrill Named Mountain West Player Of The Week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State senior guard Sam Merrill was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for his performances against South Florida and Florida last week, both wins for the Aggies.
On top of being named MWC Player of the Week, Merrill was also named College Sports Madness High-Major Player of the Week.
The Bountiful, Utah native had two great performances in the two neutral court wins for the Aggies last week. He started with a 21-point outing, along with four rebounds and three assists, while shooting 7-13 from the field and 4-7 from downtown in the Aggies’ overtime win over South Florida in Houston, Texas.
In Utah State’s 65-62 win over Florida in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Florida, Merrill recorded 21 points, a career-high 9 rebounds, along with 5 assists, 8-18 shooting for the floor and 4-7 from beyond the arc.

In the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll, Utah State received 36 votes and entered at No. 32. The Aggies are 12-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play and will be in action on Saturday night in their final non-conference game against Eastern Oregon. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
