Real Salt Lake Acquires Depth At Vacant Goalkeeping Position

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake have acquired goalkeeper Zac Macmath from the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for $50,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).
The move will add more competition at the goalkeeper position as the club looks to find Nick Rimando’s replacement.
“We welcome Zac to the team,” RSL Head Coach Freddy Juarez said. “He brings valuable experience in MLS and will have an opportunity to compete to start.”

MacMath, 28, has spent his entire professional career in Major League Soccer after being drafted fifth overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union. He has spent time on three different rosters.
His career record stands at 47-54-40 with 36 clean sheets and a 1.33 goals-against average.
After spending the first four years of his career with the Union, MacMath was later put on loan to the Colorado Rapids, where he spent one year on loan before being acquired full-time in 2016. He started the first 17 games of the 2016 season at Colorado, before the Rapids signed USMNT legend Tim Howard.
Last season he played for the Vancouver Whitecaps, where he started eight games and ended the season 1-3-4 with a 1.63 goals-against average.
MacMath has also played on the international level with the U.S. U-17 and U-23 national teams.
MacMath will compete with David Ochoa and Andrew Putna for the starting goalkeeper position. Nick Rimando’s retirement has left RSL fans pondering who may take over as the man in between the sticks in 2020. MacMath’s addition will add good competition for Ochoa and Putna throughout the offseason.
