Sneak Peek Of Utah State’s Frisco Bowl Foe, Kent State

LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State football team will travel to Texas to take on the Kent State Golden Flashes in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl.

The Golden Flashes will join the Aggies at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas on December 20.

Kent State enters the Frisco Bowl with a 6-6 record on the season. The Golden Flashes closed their regular season on a three-game winning streak. They became bowl eligible in the season finale with a 34-26 win over Eastern Michigan.

Bowl History

2019’s Frisco Bowl game will be Kent State’s fourth bowl appearance in program history.

The Golden Flashes last reached the postseason in 2012 when they lost 17-13 to Arkansas State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl. Kent State’s only other bowl games were the 1954 Refrigerator Bowl and 1972 Tangerine Bowl.

Kent State is 0-3 in its bowl history.

Regular Season Results

The Golden Flashes played against three opponents from Power 5 conference during the 2019 season. They suffered losses to Arizona State, then No. 8 Auburn, and then No. 8 Wisconsin. All three of those games were played on the road.

Kent State has wins over Kennesaw State (FCS), Bowling Green, Akron, Buffalo, Ball State, and Eastern Michigan.

The combined record for Kent State’s opponents this season was 78-70. Eight of those teams were bowl eligible and seven were placed into bowl games with Toledo (who Kent State lost to) being the exception.

The Golden Flashes finished tied for second place in the Mid-American Conference this season.

Players To Watch

The Golden Flashes are led by quarterback Dustin Crum who’s thrown for over 2,300 yards this season. Crum completed 68.2 percent of his throws for 2,333 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. The QB also led the Golden Flashes in rushing with 145 carries for 560 yards and 5 TDs.

Kent State had three running backs run for more than 300 yards this season. The Golden Flashes’ leading RB was Will Matthews who recorded 106 carries for 514 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Isaiah McKoy led the Golden Flashes in receiving with 51 catches for 767 yards and 7 touchdowns in the regular season.

Utah State will play Kent State on December 20 at 5:30 p.m. (MDT). The game will be televised on ESPN2.
