USU’s Sam Merrill Placed On Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State guard Sam Merrill was named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List. The award is given annually to the national player of the year in men’s college basketball.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association named the Aggies’ guard to the watch list on Thursday, December 5.
Merrill joins 45 college basketball players listed on the trophy’s watch list.

The Utah State guard has led the Aggies to an 8-1 start this season.
He’s averaging 17.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists through the first nine games. He’s shooting 40.6 percent on field goals and 45.5 percent from three-point range.
The Oscar Robertson Trophy is “presented annually by the USBWA since 1959, is the premier men’s college player of the year award. It is also the only such award actually named after a player or a living namesake – in this case, the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ “Player of the Century” and the first three-time national college player of the year.”
