In the Maui Invitational, Haws drew comparisons to Steve Nash from ESPN broadcaster Bill Walton for his ability to pass, create, and shoot the ball at a high level. Haws posted averages of 16.5 points and 4.8 assists while shooting 54.8 percent from the field and 54.2 percent from three-point range.
Haws’ best performance of the week came in the Cougars victory against Virginia Tech in the third-place game of the Maui Invitational. BYU defeated the Hokies 90-77 with Haws leading the way with 20 points and 7 of 11 shooting from the field and 4 of 7 from three.
This is the second time in Haws’ career that he has been named WCC Player of the Week. Last season, Haws was the conference’s best player after leading BYU to a pair of road wins against San Diego and LMU in league play for the week of February 18th, 2019.
