CONWAY, S.C. – The University of Utah men’s basketball team had a lead late in the game but the Tulane Green Wave was able to pick up a 65-61 win in the fifth place game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational.

Utah had a two point lead with 3:36 left in the game and didn’t score in the last 4:36, missing their last four field goal attempts. Tulane ended the contest on a 10-0 run.

Timmy Allen and Branden Carlson led the Utes with 14 points apiece. Rylan Jones added 11 points and 6 assists, while Mikael Jantunen chipped in 10 points off the bench. Four Green Wave players reached double figures in scoring, led by Teshaun Hightower with 16 points.

Tulane had a one-point lead at the half when they made a layup at the buzzer. They outscored Utah 33-30 in the second half. The Utes shot 48 percent from the field and 39 percent from downtown. Tulane connected on 45 percent of their field goal attempts and 33 percent of their three-point shots.

Utah committed 20 turnovers and only forced 12 Tulane miscues, but outrebounded the Green Wave 32-25. The lead changed hands 16 times throughout the game and was tied seven times.

The Utes dropped to 4-2 on the season, losing two of their last three games. They will return to the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Friday night to face UC Davis. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
