Real Monarchs Advance To USL Championship With Win Over El Paso

HERRIMAN, Utah – Real Monarchs defender Erik Holt headed in a goal in the 120th minute to send the Monarchs to the USL Championship for the first time in club history with a 2-1 win over the El Paso Locomotive.
The game went into extra time after the Monarchs tied the game with a goal in the 48th minute as Kalen Ryden found the back of the net. El Paso scored first with a goal from Andrew Fox in stoppage time before halftime.
Holt’s goal came in the dying moments of the match when the Monarchs had a corner kick, which Noah Powder sent into the box going far post and Holt was quick to get his head on it and scoring the goal.

The match at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah was the highest attended match in stadium history with 4,521 fans.

The Monarchs will face Louisville City FC in the USL Championship on Sunday, November 17 at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN2. Louisville City beat Indy Eleven 3-1 in extra time in the Eastern Conference Finals. They will make their third straight appearance in the USL Championship and won the title last season.
