BYU Offense Racks Up 639 Yards In Rout Of Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – In the BYU-Utah State rivalry the past two seasons, it was the Aggies with the offensive fireworks. On Saturday night at Maverik Stadium, it was BYU’s offense with their second and third-string quarterbacks who rolled like a wagon wheel rolling down a hill.
BYU recaptured the Old Wagon Wheel Trophy cruising to a 42-14 win over rival Utah State.
With the victory, BYU moves back to .500 on the season with a 4-4 record. Utah State drops to 4-4 on the season.

In a game that featured a potential first-round NFL Draft pick in Utah State quarterback Jordan Love. It was Jaren Hall and Baylor Romney who won the night leading BYU’s offensive attack.
Jaren Hall got the start for BYU at quarterback and led the Cougars to a 21-14 halftime lead before being sidelined for the remainder of the game with a concussion. Baylor Romney stepped in and the Cougar attack didn’t lose a beat.
Romney led BYU to three touchdown drives as the Cougars pulled away from the Aggies and never looked back. The Cougars built a 42-14 lead that allowed fourth-string quarterback Joe Critchlow to step into the game. It was Critchlow’s first game action since the 2017 season where he was the starting quarterback.

BYU head coach Kalani Sitake now moves to 3-9 overall in rivalry games (Utah State, Boise State, Utah) as the Cougars head man. After starting the season 2-4 with a pair of losses to Toledo and South Florida that left BYU at a low point in their season. The Cougars have now won back-to-back rivalry games where they were the underdog in both.
In total, BYU’s offense piled up 639 yards of total offense. A single-game high for a Kalani Sitake-coached BYU team.
For Utah State head coach Gary Andersen, his record against BYU drops to 1-4 as head coach of the Aggies.
