SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Utes won their fourth straight game in a shutout 35-0 win over the Cal Bears at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
It capped an amazing month of October for the Utes, particularly their defense and have a lot of momentum on their side.
“The whole team is playing with a lot of momentum right now, winning four in a row,” head coach Kyle Whittingham said after the win over Cal. “But, we have a new challenge this week. What we have done the last few weeks, Washington doesn’t care. They will be ready for us.”
Utah’s only loss this season was on September 20 against the USC Trojans. The following week, the Utes beat Washington State before beginning the month of October with a bye. Their first game in the month of October was against Oregon State. Now that they have played their final game of the month, Utah finished a 3-0 record and have outscored their opponents 108-10.

The shutout over Cal was the Utes’ first over a conference opponent since joining the Pac-12 in 2011. It’s only the sixth conference game overall that had a shutout since the Pac-12 expanded from 10 teams to 12.
All of that is great, but what isn’t is Utah’s track record against their next opponent, the Washington Huskies. Last season, the Utes lost both games to the Huskies, once at Rice-Eccles Stadium in the regular season and the second time in the Pac-12 Championship game.
If Utah has ever had a team talented enough to challenge Washington in Seattle, it’s the 2019 version of the Utes.
