SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Jazz welcomed the purple mountain jerseys back to Utah with a nostalgia-driven animated introduction.
The video featured a purple, teal, copper and white theme, and showcased current Jazz players in-game action wearing the purple throwbacks.
Set to a late 90’s hip-hop beat, the Jazz players highlights are animated making plays over Hot Rod Huntley’s famous commentary narrating the action.

The Jazz debuted the jerseys against the Sacramento Kings, one of 15 times the team plans to play in the classic digs this season. Jazz fans will have 11 chances to see the jerseys in person this season.
The jerseys are accompanied by a re-creation of the mountain logo court the Jazz played on from 1996-2004. The jersey change in the ’90s signaled the beginning of consecutive finals appearances for the Jazz.
The mountain jersey dubbed the “Classic Edition” by Nike will be one of five jersey stylings the Jazz wear this season. The team will also wear the gold “Statement Edition”, the striped “City Edition”, the blue “Icon Edition” and the white “Association Edition.”
The intro video isn’t the first animation the Jazz released associated with the classic look. When the Jazz first announced the return of the purple mountain logo, the team released a video featuring John Stockton, Karl Malone, Jeff Hornacek, Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert playing together in the throwback theme.

The classic uniforms highlight Utah’s mountains across the front of the jersey and on the left side of the shorts. The shorts also feature the team initials, “UJ” on the right leg as well as a snowflake basketball logo on the middle of the waistband.
Members of the current Jazz roster have already expressed excitement for the Classic Edition jerseys.
“For me, I see John Stockton,” coach Quin Snyder said, “and it’s hard to see John without seeing Karl (Malone).”

“I remember as a kid watching the Jazz when they wore these jerseys in the FInals. I’m excited about them,” said Conley.
The guard tweeted a graphic with himself in the new jersey, giving himself the nickname Mountain Mike.
“I think it’s great. You get so used to wearing the same two or three jerseys, and then you pull out a new one and it gets your juices flowing. We’re all excited.”
