PROVO, Utah – BYU redshirt freshman running back Sione Finau popped off for a huge 46-yard touchdown to put the Cougars back in front of No. 14 Boise State.
Finau, a Kearns High standout, earned the first start of his career on Saturday night and has received a bigger workload with Emmanuel Esukpa out with an injury.

The 46-yard touchdown was BYU’s longest run of the season. Since Ty’Son Williams went down with a season-ending ACL injury, BYU has been looking for big plays from their running backs and the former Kearns High alum delivered in a big game.
Back in the spring, Finau had a solid spring game performance that gave him the confidence to be a factor in the backfield for the Cougars this season. He stated to me in an interview after the scrimmage that he wanted to make a difference for BYU’s offense in the fall. He did that on Saturday night against the nationally-ranked Broncos.
