Salt Lake City, UTAH – The Utah High School Activities Association has released its final RPI ranking for the 2019 football season. The Corner Canyon Chargers earn the top seed in the 6A classification after a third consecutive undefeated regular season.
Beginning with the 2019-20 academic year, the UHSAA changed the seeding format for the state tournament for baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and volleyball.
Previously, the top four teams from each region earned bids to the postseason, but in the new RPI format, every team earns a spot in the postseason. Seeding is determined based on RPI rankings.
RPI is based on winning percentage, opponents winning percentage, and opponents’ opponents winning percentage.
First Round Byes
In the new format, teams can earn first round byes in the state tournament. In 6A, five teams earned first round byes: Corner Canyon, Herriman, Bingham, Skyridge, and Kearns.

Lone Peak’s Seeding
Earlier this week, defending 6A champion Lone Peak was forced to forfeit five wins after playing an ineligible transfer student. This ruling took Lone Peak from a likely top-ten seed, to #20. The Knights now have to face Riverton on the road in the first round.
If the Knights win, they would face #4 overall seed, Skyridge in the second round of the playoffs.
Dates and Locations
Home teams host games in the first three rounds of the playoffs. The first round is scheduled for October 25th.
