Rimando Emotional, Grateful To Fans In Speech After RSL Victory

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando was emotional and expressed gratitude to the fans at Rio Tinto Stadium in a postgame speech following his final regular-season home game.
“Just a huge huge thank to the fans. You mean so much to me,” said Rimando as he fought off tears. “We’ve had some great memories here. I’m never going to forget playing in front of you guys. You truly are the greatest fans.”
The longtime RSL goalie had his home finale at Rio Tinto Stadium on Sunday, September 29.

The goalkeeper had three saves in RSL’s 2-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo.
The win clinched a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs for the club.
“Credit to my teammates getting this huge win for us and making tonight special,” said Rimando.

Rimando has played 13 seasons for the Utah club.
He told the fans that his time with the club was “truly special, I spent most of my career here.”

The RSL goalie is retiring at the conclusion of the 2019 season.
“I’ll always bleed RSL,” said Rimando.
